Exposition

(The exposition is at the beginning of the story, and is the introduction to the characters. It describes the setting of the story, and provides some background information as to what the story will be about.  It hopefully hooks the reader, providing enough interest and information to the intended audience to encourage the reader to continue reading).

Evaluation of the exposition (Tell me specifically what you did and didn't like about the beginning of the story).

I liked that this was a mystery and it tells about the different mayors

Ideas for improvement in the exposition (Provide specific suggestions for what the author could add/remove/modify to make this better).

To make the story better I think that in the begining of the story they could add more detail and say that "This story is going to be about two main characters on an adventure finding the way out of Ember." "Do they find i t or not?" I think that this would be a better introduction because the one they have is confusing and hard to understand. Other than that this is a pretty good story and it is interesting to read. When I pick up the book and start reading I can't put the book back down for a while!!

Identification of the conflict

(Relatively early in the story, you will be able to figure out the major conflict/problem of the story).

What is the problem facing the protagonist in this story?

The mayor isn't doing anything about the power outages and when Lina and Doon find him sitting on his Lazy butt in the room that they have been looking for a key for they get mad and tell the securiety guards because  they are the next top people in power.

Also he took all of the food prom the people in the city of Ember. The people of Ember thought they could trust the mayor and to find out that he has been starling from the people of Ember makes them mad. I know that it would make me mad too if I found out that he was horting all of my cities food!! The problem facing him is knowing that he is the mayor he has more power than anyone in the city. He also makes most of the decisions. And if he eats all the food nobody will have any to survive, or want him to be mayor..

Rising Action

(The rising action is the series of events that lead towards the climax of the story.  This is where the protagonist (hero) is encountering problems or conflicts. The author usually builds up the excitement in the rising action.  Tension and suspense builds as the hero has to deal with different struggles and tries to overcome them.

Evaluation of the Rising Action (Name five events that occur in the "Rising Action," and share with me your opinions on how effective they were in building interest and excitement towards the climax).

One of the things at the bottom of the rising action scale is Lina finding the instructions.

The second thing is the baby eating the instructions and then Lina can't tell what they say

3rd. She tells Doon and Doon is helps her make out the words.

4th Doon works in the Pipe works so he can find the door easilly because he works down there and he can get in faster.

5th. Doon and Lina go to the Door and they see someone there and he gets into the room and Lina and Doon get mad because they can't find the key and get in and the person does. Lina and Doon thought they would get in first and tell everyone in the city but whoever this person was he got in and he walked funny. this made Lina and Doon mad.

6th. Lina's grandmother died and she is staying with Mrs. Murdo.

7th.A few days had passed and Lina and Doon had not talked. But when Lina was walking she seen her friend Lizzie. Lizzie started walking faster and when Lina cought up Lizzie Said "Oh I thought you were someone else." Lina wondered who else could I be. But she didn't say anything out loud Lizzie was at teh park with Lina because they were walking and Lizzie tripped on an uneven part of the sidewalk. When she dropped the sack she was holding and the cans of pineapple and everything in her sack fell out. Lina wondered where she got the sack and she picked up the can of pineapple. Lizzie told Lina that she found it in the back shelf of the market. But Lina didn't believe her. So Lizzie told her she could keep the cans. And walked away.

8th. While Doon was at work he went back over to check the door. When he got startled with what he found in the Door hole. in the

hole there were keys Doon wasn't thinking there would be keys in the door when he opened the door he found the mayor sitting on the couch passed out with a bagel stuck to his shirt.

9th. Lina and Doon were surprised so they told the Guards and at the singing thing they would stand up in front of the whole city and tell them about the mayor horting the food.

10th. Lina was upset that the door that they had found wasn't the way out, I would  be mad too if I had set my hopes really high to find out that the door wasn't the way out but I also don't know why she was so upset becasue she did find something good and she got the mayor in trouble. But when Lina had told Mrs. Murdo about what had happened she said that the word  Egres means the word out. Lina got happy and had to find the way out she went over to doon anf they fugyred the instructions out together.

Ideas for improvement (Provide specific suggestions for what the author could add/remove/modify to make the "Rising Action" better).

I think that they could add more characters and make the story fun. Maybe they could have something bad happen like maybe Doon falls down the riverbank but he gets saved that would be a big rising action. I  think that the idea of the instructions being half readable is good becasue that makes the story funner to figure out the instructions. If the instructions were just ease to figure out the story would be like 5 chapters long  and we would be able to figure the story out in like 1 chapter. It would just be boring.

Climax

(This is the turning point of the novel, and is usually the most exciting part of the story.  This is the decisive moment where the action is most intense, and the conflict is resolved).

Evaluation of the Climax (What specifically did you like and dislike about it?)

I liked that in the climax it was a good and bad ending. The good part is that they find the way out but the bad part is that it is empty. I also liked that it was an exciting ending and they got their way but they had to cry and suffer in the end because there was no one there. It was pretty sad. :'( I didn't like that there was and wasn't a happy ending because nobody was there.

Ideas for improvement (Provide specific suggestions for what the author could change to make the climax better). I think that there could be a war and everybody could be in this big fight. I think that this would make the end of the story better. They could have someone get sick but survive.

Falling Action

These are the sequence of events that follow the climax of the story. The falling action provides a bridge between the high point of the story (the climax), and the end of the story (the conclusion).

As a reader, what were your opinions about the events following the climax of the story?  What advice would you share with the author to improve this part of the story?

Dear Author,

I think that you should add some more details like what we said in the previous passage. For example having someone get sick. Or having a more of a mystery. Like saying there were somebody trying to kill the people. But then everybody escapes and goes to the new city.

Resolution

The resolution is the conclusion of the story (how the story ends).

As a reader, what were your opinions about how the story ends?  What specific advice would you share with the author to improve the ending?

I like how things ended in the ending but like I said I would've liked it more if something happened to someone in the story. Like a murder. Or a zombie or something I think that mysteries are cool and exciting to read. I kind've like scobby doo stuff because they are fun to try to guess who the bad guy was. And this doesn't really help us guess the bad guy is you just find out who was hiding the goods and and they alos found the new world
